Dear EOC Colleagues:
As noted in my April 2009 correspondence to you (click
here to read), the theme of our 2009 Annual Conference, "EOC’s of
the Future—Regulatory Implications: A Pivotal Point in EOC Survival"
implies that EOC is at a very important juncture. There are a number of
questions that require some answers. What’s happening to EOC? Its
mandatory objectives appear to be driving it more toward adult education
and away from higher education. Is EOC more aligned with Workforce
Initiatives than with TRIO? Veterans Upward Bound has organized to
establish its own course, should EOC do the same?
The 2009 annual conference will provide opportunities
for these issues to be addressed. In addition, it will cover the new
requirements for EOC and attempt to identify promising practice models
for your programs to adopt. We are planning to have COE or ED or both
address their perspectives on these new requirements. In the end, we
want you to participate in identifying the path EOC should take in the
ensuing years.
Please make every attempt to attend and register early
if you can. You can register at: www.neoca.org. If you have
questions, please feel free to contact me at www.mbrock@susla.edu
or Frances Ervin at Frances.Ervin@wichita.edu .
Sincerely,
Major Brock
Vice President
